(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, July 27 (KUNA) -- The Turkish authorities have shut down several media institutions in the framework of the state of emergency announced earlier in the country, Turkey's Anadolu Agency said on Wednesday.
The move included three news agencies, 16 TV channels, 23 Radio stations, 43 newspapers, 15 magazines and 29 publishing houses, the agency added.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Efkan Ala said today that 8,113 people were convicted of having links to the failed coup attempt that took place on July 15, adding that they are being tried.
The number of army members detained is 5,255 soldiers, 1,656 officers and 151 generals, he said, adding that 1,019 judges, police officers and prosecutors were among the detainees.
At least 15,846 people have been detained due to their links to the so-called "parallel structure". (end) rs.hm
