Bahrain refers members of Zulfiqar Brigades terrorist group to court

MANAMA, 27th July, 2016 (WAM) -- The Kingdom of Bahrain has referred 138 suspects, allegedly part of the terrorist "Zulfiqar Brigades", to court over charges of establishing, joining and running an illegal terrorist group.

Bahrain News Agency, BNA, reported that the suspects, 52 of whom are still at large, are also accused of carrying out blasts, possessing explosives, training in the use of weapons and explosives, and attempting to murder policemen.

The defendants face further charges of placing bogus explosives in public areas, exchanging intelligence with a foreign country and its aides in order to carry out hostile acts against the Kingdom, holding illegal gatherings, rioting, possessing flammable materials, and damaging property, added BNA.

The defendants will stand trial at the fifth High Criminal Court in Bahrain on August 28th.
