Number of ISIS Militants Killed in Afghan Military Operations


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Kabul, July 26 (QNA) - Scores of militants fighting for (ISIS) group have been killed amid ongoing operations in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.
The Nangarhar police media office said at least 122 loyalists of the group were killed during the ground and air offensives.
According to a statement by Nangarhar police media office, the militants were killed in the past 24 hours in the restive Achin district, (Khaama Press) reported.
The statement further added that 20 militants were also captured alive and numerous foreign militants are among those killed or captured during the operations.
According to Nangarhar police, the US forces also provided air support to the Afghan forces during the operations.
The airstrikes were called in after receiving accurate intelligence information regarding the presence of ISIS militants and their hideouts where several weapons, ammunition and explosives were also destroyed, the statement added.
The operations are being conducted amid concerns that the loyalists of the group are attempting to expand foothold in the country.
This comes as the group claimed responsibility behind a deadly attack in Kabul city on Saturday which left at least 80 people dead and over 200 others wounded. (QNA)
