Al Bashir hails Qatar's role in achieving peace in Darfur


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Nouakchott: Sudan";s President Omar Hasan Al Bashir yesterday praised the role being played by Qatar in achieving peace in Darfur and its support for Sudan in regional and international forums.

Addressing the 27th session of the Arab League Council at the summit level in Mauritanian capital Nouakchott, Al Bashir hailed the Doha Peace Agreement in Darfur and said it had a significant impact on promoting trust, achieving national unity and launching major development projects in Darfur.

He also praised efforts being exerted by Qatar to support peace in Darfur, which is witnessing a remarkable stability and absence of rebel movements, while implementing building and reconstruction projects. With regard to Arab affairs, Al Bashir called to regain the Arab initiative in Syria and not to rely on international initiatives which depend on the conflict of stakeholders and their ambitions in the region.

He stressed the importance of reaching a peaceful solution, which takes into account the respect of the will of the Syrian people and meet their legitimate aspirations.

He reiterated support for the legitimate government in Yemen led by President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi, its efforts to restore legitimacy, security and stability and reach a comprehensive political solution in accordance with the terms of reference agreed upon. He affirmed his country";s condemnation of acts of terrorism and violence in all its forms and manifestations experienced by brotherly and friendly countries and called for concerted Arab efforts to combat terrorism.
