Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) has established 25 housing units in Mauritania for of Shariah Sciences students and imams of mosques.

A total of 115 students benefited from the units equipped as"; hostels as well as imams"; homes next to the mosques. The units were established as part of a project that includes 230 housing units. The project was implemented by QC and inaugurated by Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani, Chairman, QC.

Many needy families facing tough circumstances and living in dilapidated shelters (rickety shacks) and Shariah students will benefit from the project which aims to improve their living conditions.

The units were built in towns and villages, including Nouakchott, Rosso, Boutilimit, R"; Kiz, Magta-Lahjar and Ajoueir. Each unit has a lounge, a room, a kitchen and a bathroom with a total area of 43 square metres. The units were designed according to specifications tailored to the lifestyle and architectural style in Mauritania as a desert country.

The project made it possible to accommodate 115 students in the Mhadra (Place for teaching the Holy Quran and Shariah sciences) of the religion scientist (Yahdih Abdul Wadud).

The Mhadra is in Al Maumoun village, 90km east of Nouakchott. The well-known Mhadra was established in 1880. Many senior Shariah scientists have graduated from the Mhadra after studying the Holy Quran and its sciences, foundations of religion and jurisprudence, Hadith and language sciences.

Mhadra receives Mauritanian and foreign students living under the least favourable conditions due to hardships, lack of funds and adequate houses. The only thing they have is rickety shacks that do not provide any protection from hot sun or bitter cold nights.

The units have provided the Mhadra";s students with adequate housing which contribute to creating an environment suitable for study and educational achievement.

The Mhadra";s Imam Sheikh Mohammed Salem Ould Tah, son of Yahdih Abdul Wadud, extended gratitude to the philanthropists of Qatar and QC for their efforts that will benefit Shariah sciences students .

He stressed that the project has met their needs by providing them with housing units, which represent a strong support for this group that needs to continue their education.

The units have been built for Imams of mosques in cities, including Nouakchott, Boutilimit and Arkiz. These have been set up next to mosques to enable Imams to attend prayers without having to travel long distances. Sheikh Mohammed Abdul Rahman, Imam of Huda mosque in Tarheel neighbourhood, praised the project that represents a success in Mauritania for QC that has consistently supported the needy people.
