TNM Cape Maclear Triathlon returns to the shores of Lake Malawi


(MENAFN- The Maravi Post) Malawi's premier mobile and ICT service provider, TNM has sponsored the TNM Cape Maclear Triathlon, a sporting event at the shores of Lake Malawi to the tune of K11 million.

Announcing the sponsorship, TNM's Chief Commercial Officer said as a Malawian company, TNM felt duty bound to be part of the ground breaking sporting event that seeks not only to uplift the lives of the less privileged in society by also to market the country to the outside world.

"It is exciting to note that in future Mizu Foundation targets at growing the Triathlon to a level where it attracts international athletes. This will help sell Malawi's tourism to the outside world," said Mbekeani.

According to founder of Mizu Foundation, Jam Kaunda said his organization has engaged would be participants € Malawians and Malawian-based expat athletes to participate in the Triathlon, while raising money for a charity of their choice.

"And in the years to come, we will be aggressive in pushing for international athletes to come and compete while enjoying the beauty that is Lake Malawi. We want to make this an annual event," said Kaunda.

He said the Triathlon promises to offer athletes and families a chance to enjoy the spectacular sun-kissed beaches, a warm sub-tropical climate as well as the friendly warm heart of the locals. Kaunda said the 0.7km swim along the shores, followed by an undulating 18km cycle through the hills of the Lake Malawi National Park, and the 4.5km run through the village and the park, is sure to provide some excitement to the participants.

The Triathlon starts from 26th to 28th August and will include activities like pre- fancy dress party, main Triathlon, kayak/ Canoe Race, football tournament, beach volleyball tournament, main party by the golden sands, kids mini triathlon/fun run and sun downers on a boat.

Mizu Foundation has partnered ministries of Sports & Culture and Information, Tourism & Civic Education in the organisation of the September event.

Proceeds from the event will towards a number of charitable causes. TNM is the lead sponsor of the event.
