DUBAI, 23rd July, 2016 (WAM)--The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) has received a donation of AED500,000 from Emirates Islamic Bank in support of the salma Humanitarian Relief programme that aims to distribute millions of halal meals to victims of conflicts and wars globally, and is implemented in cooperation with several national entities.

Awatif Al Harmoodi, General Manager - Operational Control & Processes at Emirates Islamic Bank, delivered the cheque to Ahmad Bu Shehab, Director of Waqf Development at AMAF, in the presence of Abdul Wahab Soufan, Director of salma Humanitarian Relief programme, and Yasar Kalthoum, Senior Executive of salma Humanitarian Relief programme.

Commenting on the contribution, Ahmad Bu Shehab said, "The salma Humanitarian Relief programme is a genuine humanitarian initiative that extends across borders and reaches people of different backgrounds. Thanks to the spirit of social responsibility that many of our national entities such as Emirates Islamic Bank enjoy, we are now able to reach out to further areas and offer meals to those suffering from the aftermath of wars and conflicts."

He added, "I would like to thank the bank's management for their constant support to AMAF's initiatives, especially the salma Humanitarian Relief programme. Such support helps alleviate the suffering of people that have lost their homes and are denied reliable access to halal and healthy food."

For her part, Awatif Al Harmoodi said, "AMAF's noble humanitarian mission has proved its viability in offering all possible support to victims of wars and conflicts that transcend geographical and racial borders. Emirates Islamic Bank is pleased to partner with the salma Humanitarian Relief Program via the Emirates Islamic Charity Fund. This initiative is in line with the bank's commitment to serve humanitarian causes on a global scale."

The salma project was launched in 2014 in partnership with the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (DIEDC) and Noor Awqaf, and in collaboration with the UN World Food Programme, with the logistical support offered by Dubai International Humanitarian City.
