DUBAI, 22nd July, 2016 (WAM)--As part of a series of lectures aimed at spreading awareness for the culture of waqf in the community, Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF), in cooperation with Dubai Health Authority (DHA), has organised a lecture on the important topic of endowments at DHA's Rashid Medical Library auditorium.

Complementing the 2016 Executive Plan of AMAF's Waqf Development Department, the lecture was part of a special outreach initiative launched by AMAF to educate students about the significant role of waqf in the development of human civilisation and encourage them to contribute generously in supporting waqf-focused community projects. The lecture drew the participation of 160 high school and university students engaged in DHA's summer internship programme.

In his speech, Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Senior Executive of Waqf Research at AMAF, highlighted the benefits of waqf and its contributions to the Islamic civilisation and other important civilisations across the world. He also explained the importance of waqf as an ethical and religious requirement in supporting underprivileged segments of society.

For his part, Abdulla Ibrahim Al Hassai, Chief Solidarity Executive at AMAF, briefed the students on AMAF's efforts in enhancing awareness of waqf as a tool in building society. He encouraged the students to develop a spirit of solidarity and help orphans and the needy through donating one dirham from their pocket money to participate in the Foundation's humanitarian projects across the UAE and abroad.

In addition, Atef Al Raisi, Solidarity Executive Assistant at AMAF, presented an overview of the Foundation's most important waqf projects, including the Family Village that was launched in the summer of 2015 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide care to orphans in Dubai, and the salma Humanitarian Relief Program that distributes 100 percent halal meals to victims of wars and conflicts across the globe.

In their feedback following the session, student attendees commended the well-rounded agenda that detailed the importance of waqf and its role in building a more humanitarian society. They also noted that the session encouraged them to contribute to projects and initiatives launched by different charitable organizations across the UAE.

AMAF routinely calls upon members of the UAE community to support the salma Humanitarian Relief Programme and help save large numbers of victims of war and natural disaster.
