Mexico emphasizes solar energy's growth to aid economy


(MENAFN) Mexico is the country with the world's third largest solar potential; as its gross solar potential is estimated at 5kWh/m2 daily, which corresponds to 50 time's national electricity generation, based on recent reports.

Currently, there is over 1 million square meters of solar thermal panels mounted in Mexico, and it's projected that in 2017 there will be more than 2 million square meters of installed solar thermal panels.

Meanwhile, energy production in Mexico is managed by state-owned companies; the Federal Commission of Electricity and Pemex, with the latter being in charge of exploration, extraction, transportation of crude oil/gas.

Moreover, Mexico is the sixth-largest oil producer in the world, with 3.7 million barrels per day, and back in 1980 its oil exports accounted for 61.6 percent of total exports, but by 2000 it was only 7.3 percent.
