KT&G logs 12pct rise in net profit over Q2


(MENAFN) KT&G Corp., South Korea's state-run tobacco producer, witnessed its gross profit jump 11.9 percent in the three months to June period from a year ago due to brisk sales in the local market.

In detail, the company's net profit touched a total of USD2.55 million on a consolidated basis through the April-June timeframe, as opposed to USD228 million a year earlier.

Moreover, operating income increased 14.5 percent on-year to an overall USD309.7 million, not to mention sales climbed 5.4 percent to USD940 million over the mentioned period.

In contrast, the number of cigarettes sold overseas dipped 4.6pct on-year to 10.4bn in the 2nd quarter, but abroad income rose 6.6pct to USD169.4mn due to favorable foreign exchange rates.
