DOHA: Work is in full swing on a Qatar Charity (QC) school with a capacity of 600 students in Gaza.

The move aims to meet severe shortage of schools — Kamal Al O";hood (Fulfilling Pledges) — in the East of Jabalia Camp in the Northern Area.

Around 600 male and female students from the area are expected to benefit from the project being implemented at a cost of QR2.2m. It is financed by philanthropists of Qatar and is being executed by QC, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Dr. Ziad Thabit, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the Strip, thanked Qatar government and people and praised QC";s efforts towards the Palestinian people in general and the educational sector in particular.

He also praised the establishment of schools which meet the needs of the sector. The sector is suffering a shortage of schools and teachers and around 200 schools are needed to meet the growing number of students.

'I hope the support for this vital sector continues because of the great effects it has on improving the quality of education in Gaza and the establishment of a convenient educational environment,” he said.

Engineer Mohammed Abu Halloub, Director, QC office in Gaza, said, 'The project aims at providing primary education to students in the eastern side of Jabalia, mainly Ezbit Abd Rabu territory considered relatively remote due to the multiple Israeli assaults which hit the area during in the past three wars on Gaza.”

Abu Halloub highlighted how the project would provide a healthy and educational environment for students, especially at a time when the region has shortage of schools.

'The project facilitates easy and safe access to schools. QC aims at supporting the parents of the targeted students and helping them overcome the economic burdens.”

He highlighted the need to reinforce the role of the educational authorities to help them do their job and implement their plans without any obstacles.

This is not QC";s first educational project to support the educational sector in Gaza. QC has implemented a project to supply public schools with laboratories. It has also implemented a project providing 60 schools with alternative energy to overcome continuous power cuts in the Strip.
