Trump officially named Republican presidential nominee

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, July 20 (KUNA) -- Real estate mogul Donald Trump was named the official Republican nominee Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention and he will represent the country's conservative party during its general election for president in November.

A majority political analysts, rivals, and fellow republicans never thought that Trump would have succeeded this far in the process but the candidate far surpassed the required 1,237 delegate count during the final vote today.

"Together we've achieved historic results with the largest vote total in the history of the Republican party. This is a movement, but we have to go all the way," said Trump who briefly spoke to the convention via video conference after his win.

He reiterated his promise to bring back jobs, rebuild the military, create strong borders, elimenate the so-called Islamic State (IS), and "restore law and order." "But, together, most importantly, we are going to make America great again," he added.

Trump is expected to return to Cleveland, Ohio for the final two days of the convention with his major acceptance speech scheduled for Thursday night.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, who is the top ranking Republican in the US government later made an upbeat speech to rally and unify the party. Ryan, who was hesitant to finally endorse Trump until last month was the Vice Presidential running mate in the last general election in 2012 alongside former Governor Mitt Romney who opted out of attending the convention in protest of nominee.

"We Republicans have made our choice. Have we had our arguments this year? Sure we have. You know what I call those? Signs of life. Signs of a party that isn't just going through the motions, not just mouthing words of the same old stuff," he said.

"What do you say that we unify this party, at this crucial moment when party unity is everything?" he added.

Ryan blasted presumptive democratic candidate Hillary Clinton for "offering a third Obama term" and said that the Democratic Party's convention next week will be a "four day infomercial of political correct moralizing." "Let's take our fight to our opponents, with better ideas! Let's get on the offensive and let's stay there," he urged.

Another highly ranked Republican, Senate Majority Mitch McConnell echoed Ryan's sentiments and said, "the American people are tired of hearing about the bounty of government while the cost of caring for a family, or meeting daily expenses grows out of reach." "I've had my difference with Barack Obama, but I'll give him credit for this. At least he was upfront about his plans to move America to the far left," he continued, "Not Hillary. She lied about her emails. She lied about her server. She lied about Benghazi." McConnell stressed, "Fortunately there's a clear choice before us, and it's not Hillary." Two of Trump's children, Tiffany Trump and Donald Trump Jr. also gave remarks during the evening. (end) ak.gta
