Trump officially Republican Party nominee

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Washington, July 20 (Petra) -- Donald Trump, the billionaire businessman, has officially became the Republican Party's presidential nominee late Tuesday after a roll call vote overshadowed by dissent and apathy atypical of what is traditionally a celebration of the party's White House candidate.

Trump easily earned the 1,237 delegates needed to capture the nomination. But sporadic boos could be heard as some states attempted to award delegates to Trump's Republican primary competitors.

Appearing via video link later at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday, Trump told delegates he was "so proud" to be their nominee for president and vowed to "go all the way" and win the White House in November.

We are going to win the presidency and bring real change and leadership back to Washington," he said to applause. "We will win in November." He praised his pick for vice president, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, as an "incredible man" who would make "a great vice president." Pence was also formally nominated.

"We're going to have strong borders, we're going to get rid of ISIS and we're going to restore law and order we have to restore," he told the crowd, adding "I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you on Thursday night on how we build a brighter and more hopeful future for all Americans." S Kh
