US authorities lift curbs on Turkey flights

US aviation officials on Monday lifted all restrictions on flights to Turkey, which had been imposed amid the uncertainty surrounding last week's failed coup attempt.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that it had "lifted all restrictions on flights to and from Turkey at 1:45 pm EDT (1745 GMT)."

The United States was among several nations to suspend air travel to Turkey in the immediate aftermath of the failed putsch. The FAA issued a notice Saturday prohibiting all US commercial and private aircraft from operating into or out of any airport in Turkey.

The FAA decision to reverse the order was issued after reviewing events on the ground in Turkey, which it said last week it was monitoring in coordination with the US State Department and the Department of Homeland Security.
