The higher education exhibition Ghedex got underway on Tuesday, providing the recently graduated high school students a chance to select colleges.

Thirty-two institutions are participating in the three-day event being held at the Oman International Exhibition Centre (OIEC). Students recently received their final high school marks and have two weeks to list their preferred colleges at the Higher Education Admissions Centre, officials said.

Dr Said bin Hamad al Rubaie, secretary general of the Council of Education in the Ministry of Education, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. Dr Rubaie said the government is paying a lot of attention to education despite the prevailing economic challenges. Opportunities for obtaining internal or external scholarships are still available for students, he said. The exhibition is being organised by Arabian Gate Expo.

Kenana bint Ibrahim al Hinaeyah, manager, Arabian Gate Expo said the exhibition aims at informing students on the programmes and services provided by colleges and universities at one place. The event is open from 9am to 1pm and 4pm to 10pm.
