Kuwait- Saudi FM: We want to build bridges of stability

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, July 19 (KUNA) -- Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir said here Tuesday that the Kingdom is working to defeat the scourge of terrorism.

"Today the challenges we face are extremists and terrorism, and we are working with our religious scholars, with our security people, with our allies, with our friends and with the global community to push back extremism and terrorism. The bunch of thugs will be defeated," he stressed.

Al-Jubeir was speaking on the topic "Saudi Arabia and Regional issues: Challenges and Perspectives" in an event organised by the Belgian think-tank Egmont Institute.

He said Saudi-EU ties and Saudi-US ties are very strong and it also has strong ties with the key countries of the world.

"Our objective is peace and stability. Our objective is to build bridges and use the bridges to build stability," he noted.

Al-Jubeir said the EU-GCC ministerial meeting held in Brussels on Monday; which he chaired from the GCC side, was positive.

"We are now embarking on a new phase of history, which we call Vision 2030," he said in reference to Saudi Arabia transforming and diversifying its economy from an oil producer to an innovative, competitive and efficient society.

In his speech, the Saudi minister also spoke about relations with Iran and developments in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Palestine. (end) nk.hb
