UN Chief Meets Qatar's Candidate for UNESCO


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Nairobi, July 18 (QNA) - The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met Monday with the Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar's candidate for post of director-general of the Organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), HE Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, the president of the 13th UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on the sideline of the 14th conference, currently underway in Nairobi.
During the meeting, Ki-moon entrusted Dr. Al Kuwari with his greetings to HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. He also extended thanks to the State of Qatar for its presidency of UNCTAD 13 during the past 4 years.
Dr. Al Kuwari briefed Ban Ki-moon on the nomination of the State of Qatar to him as Director-General of UNESCO, and on his vision for the advancement of the organization. Ki-moon, in return, wished success to the Qatari candidate.
HE Dr. Al Kuwari is currently visiting Kenya to hand over the presidency UNCTAD to Kenya, the successor to the State of Qatar in the conference presidency. He also held several meetings with senior officials in Kenya and a number of African countries to promote his electoral programme. (QNA)
