France praises resumption of Yemeni peace talks in Kuwait

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, July 18 (KUNA) -- France on Monday praised the resumption of negotiations between the warring parties in Yemen, being hosted by Kuwait.

"France welcomes the resumption in Kuwait of United Nations intra-Yemeni peace talks. We congratulate all parties who have made this possible," a Foreign Ministry statement said.

The ministry also expressed "full support" for UN envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmad and urged the warring parties to find a lasting political solution to the conflict.

In addition, Paris called for "fully respecting the cease-fire" that was agreed and urged implementing the modalities of UN Security Council resolution 2216. "This involves a new transition process, the formation of a government that is representative of the whole population and the return to State institutions," the ministry said.

"We remain very concerned about the security, humanitarian and economic situation in Yemen," the Foreign Ministry said. (end) jk.msa
