Oman- TRC receives 132 projects for National Research Award

The Research Council (TRC) has received 132 projects for the National Research Award (NRA) as applications closed on June 30.

The applicants can win awards in two categories under six research sectors. Winners will be announced at the Annual Research Forum on October 5, stated a press release.

Some 89 research projects have been submitted under the PhD holders or equivalent award category, while 43 research projects have reached TRC for the second category - the junior researchers' award category (non-PhD holders).

Out of the total applications, 25 research projects are in the culture, basic and social sciences sector, 20 projects in the education and human resources sector, 31 projects in the environment and biological resources sector, 21 projects in the health and social development sector, 19 projects in the energy and industry sector, and 16 projects in the information and communications technology sector, added the release.

The submitted projects will be evaluated by sectoral committees in each research sector, based on the criteria and mechanisms announced under the NRA.

The committees will take into account the quality of the published research papers within these projects and their importance to the sultanate.

On October 5, 12 research projects will be announced as winners of this year's NRA under the two categories of the award, with two projects winning in each research sector.

TRC is organising the award for the third consecutive year with the aim of encouraging Omani researchers to continue their activities and initiatives, spreading the culture of research and raising the quality of research outputs in the sultanate, added the release.

TRC also hopes to encourage sultanate-related research and increase the level of awareness on the role played by it through research grants.
