Peruvian mission to open Qhapaq Nan expo at Katara tomorrow

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) DOHA: Cultural Village Foundation-Katara and the Peruvian embassy will open a photographic exhibition on Qhapaq Ñan tomorrow at Katara Building 19 Gallery 2.

The exhibition, which opens at 7pm, marks the anniversary of Qhapaq Ñan Andean Road System";s inscription to the Unesco World Heritage List two years ago.

Qhapaq Ñan was added to the list during the 38th session of the World Heritage Committee in Doha in June 2014.

Qhapaq Ñan, otherwise known as the main Andean Road, was the backbone of the Inca Empire";s political and economic power. The network of roads which is over 30,000km connected production, administrative and ceremonial centres built over more than 2,000 years of pre-Inca Andean culture.

The Inca Empire organised its network on a continent-wide scale; its roads are an invaluable expression of the organising and planning spirit of the available labour force and constituted a key to unifying the empire.

The road also expressed peoples"; harmonious relations and adaptation to the complex Andean natural setting. Today, the cultural landscapes of Qhapaq Ñan form an exceptional backdrop on which living Andean cultures continue to convey a universal message: The human ability to turn one of the harshest geographical contexts of the American continent into an environment for life.
