The five-member crew of Musandam-Oman Sail including skipper Sidney Gavignet were safe and secure after the MOD70 trimaran capsized on Sunday morning approximately 450 nautical miles east of St Pierre and Miquelon, off the coast of Canada, while competing in the Transat Quebec-St Malo race.

According to Oman Sail officials, the crew that included Damian Foxall, Fahad al Hasni, Alex Pella and Mayeul Riffet were safe and have been transferred to a cargo ship, which was heading back to Canada. The Transat Quebec-St Malo race committee and Oman Sail were assessing possible solutions for recovering the MOD70.

Musandam-Oman Sail left Quebec in Canada on Wednesday on a 2,897nm course across the North Atlantic to St Malo in France with the aim of breaking the existing record of seven days 20 hours and 24 minutes set in 1996 by Loick Peyron.
