Oman is making all arrangements for the return of citizens stranded in Turkey.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Seham Abdullah al Haddabi, first secretary at the Omani Embassy in Ankara, said, 'We are gathering information about all Omanis who are in Turkey. We have been able to assemble a list of about 100 Omanis who are mainly in Istanbul, Anatolia and Bursa. Once we have completed the formalities, a special flight will be arranged on Sunday or Monday for their return.'

She added, 'Most of them are tourists and there are no students. The flights will be arranged from Istanbul. The situation is stable now but the airports are too crowded. Many flights have been postponed.'

Acting upon the directives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the embassy helped a family stranded at the Istanbul airport. 'On Friday night, a family got stuck at the airport due to the crisis. The family members were a hassled lot as they were shuttled between the flight and airport. They had a baby and were upset as no one was allowed to leave or enter the airport. When we came to know about the incident, we called the Omani consulate in Istanbul. Our representative shifted them to a hotel.'

She has also advised travellers from Oman not to visit Turkey until it is absolutely necessary.

The embassy has advised Omani nationals to reach it on 00905313841414 or e-mail at and keep it updated about their whereabouts.

The ministry has said that it will bear the cost of return tickets.
