Emirati Ramadan iftar project in Lebanon concludes

BEIRUT, 16th July 2016 (WAM) --- The Emirati Ramadan iftar project for the hijri year 1437 concluded after benefiting 551,854 people across Lebanon including in the border towns of Arsal, Wadi Khaled and Shebaa, the media office of the Humanitarian and Development Attache at the UAE Embassy in Beirut today announced Saturday.
The project, which included iftar meals for fasting people, Eid al-Fitr clothing and zakat al-Fitr, benefited Lebanese families and Syrian and Palestinian refugees.
A special budget was allocated for widows, orphans and people with special needs.
Some 218,676 people received iftar aid while 30,360 people received Eid clothing and 29,818 people received zakat al-Fitr money.
The UAE's latest aid project in Lebanon included mass iftar banquets, individual and family meals, suhoor meals for the Night of Power, as well as sugar and rice for zakat al-Fitr and Eid clothing.
The project was part of the UAE's continuing response to the crisis of Syrian refugees in winter 2016, which has benefited more than 280,000 people across Lebanon.
The media office noted that the humanitarian campaign, which was launched at the beginning of Ramadan and continued through Eid al-Fitr, was generously supported by a group of Emirati donors including Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, Mohammed Bin Rashid Charity and Humanitarian Establishment, Ahmed bin Zayed Foundation, Emirates Red Crescent, Office of Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, Dar Al Ber Society, Human Appeal International, Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Foundation.
The UAE Embassy coordinated the effort with the Lebanese government and a number of strategic partners including the Relief and Humanitarian Aid Organisation of Lebanon's Dar Al-Fatwa, Lebanon's Zakat Fund, "Dar al-Aytam al-Islamiya and Shebaa Municipality, as well as charities licensed by the Lebanese interior ministry including Social Relief and Welfare Association in Saida, Cedars for Care, Al Ihsan Charity Association, Veterans of Al Hussain bin Ali, an affiliate of Al-Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association, and Al Huda Youth.
The media office stressed that the humanitarian and charity programme, approved years ago by the donors, continues to be committed to the directives of the UAE leadership for foreign aid based on their belief in humanitarian aid.
