A delegation from the Command and Staff College comprising students of the 29th batch visited the State Council on Wednesday to gain knowledge about the bicameral parliamentary system.

Dr Khalid bin Salim al Saeedi, secretary general of the State Council and Sheikh Ali bin Nasser al Mahrouqi, secretary general of the Majlis A'Shura delivered lectures for the benefit of the students, stated a press release.

The lectures highlighted the role played by the councils in decision-making, and their contribution to the overall development of the sultanate.

They reviewed the evolution of the Shura in the sultanate, which is built on the foundations of sound policies and the benefits of the Blessed Renaissance.

The lectures also touched on the nature of the councils, their composition, origin and evolution and the Basic Statute.

Dr Saeedi underlined the special provisions of the State Council vested by the Basic Statute, which limits the number of its members, the mechanism of their appointment, categories they are chosen from, the terms of membership and its legislative and oversight powers.

Speaking about the council's activities and achievements, Dr Saeedi detailed the topics studied, in addition to providing the definition of the organisational structure of the council and its main organs.
