Washington will continue efforts to alleviate Syrian's suffering

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Washington, July 13 (Petra) -- US Secretary of State John Kerry said that Washington will continue doing everything it can to alleviate the suffering in Syria and open up more areas to humanitarian access.

During a reception of Eid al-Fitr for American Muslims, Kerry announced that his country will pursue a political solution that is essential in order to halt the violence and enable families to return their communities and rebuild their lives .

He announced that Washington will meet President Obama'a goal of welcoming 10,000 Syrian refugees to the United States in the current fiscal year.

"This is different from normal process of migration and green card and becoming a citizen and so forth. It's a very different category. It's also representing six-fold increase over what we did the year before", the official said.

The United States is by far the largest contributor of emergency aid, he said stressing that more needs to be done to help those who are besieged inside Syria; more has to be done to resolve this brutal conflict that has cost far too many lives and forced far too many people from their homes, he stated.

" I will leave tomorrow morning to go via one stop to Moscow in order to meet with President Putin and Foreign Minister Lavrov to see if we can somehow advance this in the important ways that people want us to ", Kerry further added.
