Qatar students shine in US schools contest


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Qatari contingent at Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee in the United States.

DOHA: Twenty-three teams from schools in Qatar participated in the Destination Imagination Global Finals held in Knoxville, Tennessee in the United States.

The Qatar contingent comprised 19 teams from 18 Independent Schools and four teams from three international schools.

The 150-member delegation included students, teachers and parents. This is in addition to the presence of teams from Saudi Arabia and Jordan, all of which are under the umbrella of AlFaisal Without Borders (ALF) Foundation.

Moza Bint Mohamed Elementary School impressed the judges placing 12th out of 52 teams in the Close Encounters challenge while Moza bint Mohammed Preparatory Independent School ranked 24th out of 62 in the same challenge.

Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ALF, said, 'It is my privilege to congratulate all our Global Finalists for their outstanding performance. This is one step further in our pursuance of Qatar";s development ambitions as outlined in the National Vision 2030. It is a true reflection of our progressive educational system. The ALF Foundation is working tirelessly to develop ideas that nurture our young people and improve our country.”

'The innovative ideas from our young, creative minds have done us proud. It shows that we have a resource pool of thinkers who have the potential to take our country to the next level,” he added.

Abdullatif Ali AlYafei, General Manager of AlFaisal Without Borders Foundation, said: 'Sending our teams to the United States to participate in the world finals of the ‘Set Your Destination"; competition reflects our mission to support innovative education and stimulate the capacities of youths, consistent with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 in terms of human capital development.

'The finals highlighted the great achievements that students can make through collaboration, innovation, scientific research, as well as problem-solving and critical thinking skills. They have developed unique skills that will help them achieve success during their lives. The programme ‘Set Your Destination"; aims to instill the concept of lifelong learning among students and teach them mechanisms to adapt to global changes and become active decision makers in the future. We congratulate all participating students on their creativity, flexibility, and ideas.”
