Iran to buy extra freighters to meet oil shipments


(MENAFN) Iran has unveiled it urgent need for extra oil tankers in its aging fleet to handle a significant increase in the nation's foreign crude shipments.

Basically, Iran has 55-60 oil tankers in its fleet and a number of these tankers are being utilized for storing crude, and that some are not seaworthy over age.

Additionally, a total of 20 large tankers are not seaworthy and needs as soon as possible to go to dry docks for refits to meet international shipping standards.

The Islamic Republic has boosted its crude exports to a reported 1.75mn barrels per day (bpd) so far in July, up from average June exports of about 1.6mn bpd.
