Oman- Bank Sohar starts staff training programme

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat-

Bank Sohar, in its endeavour to further develop the skills and competencies of its valued staff, has launched a new specialised development programme titled ''Kafa''a Programme'' (Arabic for ''Competencies'').

This new training programme will see the participation of 60 staff members and will be directly overseen by the management.

Munira Abdulnabi Macki, GM of human resource and corporate support, Bank Sohar, said, ''In light of the competitive environment in the banking sector, competencies of a bank''s staff and their subsequent relationships with customers are the determining factors of success and profitability. As such, it is vital to determine which competencies are important, both within the organisation and the specific position.''

She added, ''Furthermore, we believe that competencies should be objective rather than subjective, so that they are measured quantitatively. This is exactly what our ''Kafa''a Programme'' was designed to do identify development opportunities and gaps to be filled in the competencies of our staff and provide them with a personalised development plan and necessary support to grow personally and professionally.''

The ''Kafa''a Programme'' is being supported by various coaches, the bank''s human resource department, various divisional heads, and the bank''s learning centre. The on-going programme will involve 60 staff members undergoing a comprehensive scientific evaluation to identify current competencies, capabilities, developmental opportunities and gaps. A special customised development plan will then be drafted for each individual staff member based on the results.

They will then undergo a personalised training programme, 70 per cent of which will be conducted on the job, with the remaining 30 per cent being taken up as other development activities.

Munira said, ''We have always considered our staff as the main contributors to our success and, as a result, have always given top priority to staff care along with development and training.

However, not every competency can be improved through standard training and development programmes. This new training programme, because of its personalised nature, helps us effectively overcome this hurdle. Since the programme is not time bound, each person is provided with personal attention and given the required time frame needed to develop more efficiently. Thus, I am confident of the programme''s effectiveness.''
