Asiamet making progress with key study on Indonesia copper project

(MENAFN- ProactiveInvestors - UK) Asiamet Resources Limited (LON:ARS) said it is making ''excellent progress'' with the feasibility study of the Beruang Kanan Main (BKM) copper deposit in Indonesia, particularly with the long lead time items.

In a comprehensive update, it also said it had appointed experienced consultant Mark Young as leader of the study.

Over the past decade he has helped develop the Amaam coal project in Russia for Tigers Realm Coal and major potash operations in Canada for BHP Billiton(LON:BLT).

He also worked for the Anglo-Aussie major''s Chilean copper projects and at Rio Tinto''s (LON:RIO) coal and iron ore operations in Australia.

Asiamet said it has also contracted an array of specialists companies in the fields of metallurgy, drilling, geology and pit and plant design.

The BKM feasibility study represents a ''major de-risking phase for the project'', said chief executive Tony Manini, with the data key for potential funders of the mining project.

''We have also assembled a first class team of consultants and service providers and now look forward to advancing the studies and progressively receiving results, which will be reported as they become available,'' the Asiamet CEO added.

On the ground an in-fill drilling programme is taking place with the aim of upgrading just under 50mln tonnes of the resource (containing 657mln pounds of copper) from the lower confidence inferred category to the measured and indicated groups.

A total of 100 holes of resource drilling is planned, while 15 holes will be sunk that will help Asiamet''s team understand better the metallurgy of BKM.
