DOHA: From story books to stage, classic fairytales are captivating audiences at malls at the week-long Eid in Qatar Celebrations organised by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).

The spectacular stage productions of well-loved children’s tales bring total family entertainment as they combine colourful costumes, lively music and dance and thrilling acrobatics.

Since it opened on Wednesday, the stage production of Alice in Wonderland at City Center Doha has been attracting hundreds of spectators young and old for its unique take on the story based on Lewis Carroll’s 19th century novel.

The children have enjoyed watching Alice as she interacts with anthropomorphic characters in the fantasy world. A major highlight of the 30-minute show is the inclusion of the juggling and acrobatic acts. The young audience were entertained by the juggler as he continuously tossed into the air footballs among other objects multiple times.

A performer trying to replicate a spider with acrobatics on several ropes he forms into a web and dares to pose, hang and spin around for several minutes.

“Everyone in the family is happy watching the show. It has all necessary elements fitting not only to children but people of all ages. I want to thank the organisers for giving another fun-filled Eid programme worth watching,” said Marygrace, a mother of two.

Children also get the opportunity to interact and have their photos taken with the characters in a meet and greet at the end of each show.

Other fairytales being staged at the malls include The Little Mermaid at Ezdan Mall, Sleeping Beauty at Dar Al Salam Mall, and Snow White at Lagoona Mall. In addition, Al Khor Mall is presenting Kids’ Circus while Hyatt Plaza Mall is staging an interactive show of popular children’s television programme Iftah Ya Simsim. The mall shows, which continue until tomorrow, run from 5pm to 10pm.

Further enhancing the mall shows are parades and other entertaining acts which rotate between all six participating malls.

“Mall parades and rotating shows are back by popular demand this Eid. We would like to thank our partners at the malls for enriching Qatar’s indoor entertainment offerings. Residents and visitors can also ‘capture joy’ for the remainder of the Eid in Qatar Celebrations at other venues we are partnering with,” said Mashal Shahbik, QTA’s Director of Festivals and Tourism Events.

With the theme “Capture Joy”, this year’s Eid Al Fitr events comprise a variety of events and activities at various locations catering to the family.

Other ongoing shows and activities are “A Child’s Dream at Katara, “The Fisherman and the Pirates” at Al Rayyan Theatre, “Tar Al Wazir” at Qatar National Theatre, aerial paragliding at Sealine beach, tours at Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum and sightseeing at Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve.
