Qatar- Mercury likely to hit 47 degrees until Tuesday


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) DOHA: The Qatar Meteorology Department has forecast rise in temperature by three to four degree Celsius above average and strong winds with dust at places across the country over three days starting from today.

Due to the extension of Indian monsoon seasonal low over the region, fresh to strong northwesterly wind is expected to affect most areas of the country during the day until Tuesday, the department said in a statement.

The wind speed will range between 18 and 28 knots, gusting to 38 sometimes over some areas, blowing dust and reducing visibility to 2km or less in some areas.

In addition, sea waves are expected to rise between six and nine feet.

Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 37 degrees C in northern coastal areas to 47 degrees C in central areas. In Doha, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 45 and 47 degree and minimum between 34 and 36.

The department has urged all residents to be cautious and avoid venturing into sea during the periods of strong winds.

It has also urged people to avoid direct sunlight and to follow updates through the department’s social media accounts.
