JERUSALEM, 10th July, 2016 (WAM) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has renewed his support for the French peace initiative and its efforts to prepare for the convening of an international peace conference by the end of this year.

President Abbas made the remarks when he met, at the Presidential headquarters in Ramallah, with French Envoy for the peace process, Pierre Vimont. He also praised efforts of French President, Francois Hollande.

Abbas re-affirmed the official stance of Palestine, rejecting the recent report of the Quartet committee as it failed to mention some international references.

He also stressed the need to end the Israeli occupation, based on 1967 borders, and establish an independent state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
