Pres. Abbas renews support for French peace initiative
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, July 9 (KUNA) -- Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas renewed on Saturday his support for the French peace initiative.
During a meeting with French envoy for the peace process Pierre Vimont, Abbas valued efforts of French President Francois Hollande aiming to create a clear political horizon in this regard, the official Palestinian news agency (WAFA) reported.
Abbas affirmed the official stance of Palestine rejecting the recent report of the Quartet committee as it failed to mention some international references.
He further stressed the need to end the Israeli occupation based on 1967 borders and establish an independent state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Abbas then listened to a presentation on the French efforts exerted to hold an international peace conference by the end of this year and the points discussed with the countries which attended the Paris meeting on June 3. (end) nq.hm
