Jeddah port customs foil gold smuggling attempt

Jeddah, Shawwal 04, 1437, July 09, 2016, SPA -- Jeddah port customs officers have recently successfully foiled gold smuggling attempt, it was reported today.
Acting Director General of Customs of Jeddah Islamic Port Saad Al-Bagmi said that a private car aboard a sea vessel approached the customs desk at the entrance gate of the port for routine customs check.
The customs officer found as much as 29 gold pieces weighing 38 kilograms hidden at the roof of the car.
Al-Bagmi advised all passengers who manage to hold during entrance or departure a quantity of jewelry or monetary coins or paper worth more than SR60,000 to report to the customs authorities at the Kingdom''s inlet/outlets to avoid legal liability.
