Govt, Industry talk technology during INFOCOM 2016

(MENAFN- KNN India) Prakash Javadekar, who took charge of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry on Thursday, inaugurated “INFOCOM 2016″ - India’s leading business, technology and leadership conference - at India Habitat Centre here.

An initiative of the Ananda Bazar Patrika (ABP) Group and delegate partner Federation of Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (FISME), the day-long conference themed on “Transform, Disrupt, Transform” witnessed participation of over 300 delegates comprising industry leaders and policymakers, among others.

“Power of ideas prepares ground for real transformation. However, if discrimination persists it would hinder the change,” said Javadekar.

The event also marked the second edition of INFOCOM – New Delhi chapter.

The opening sessions witnessed keynote addresses by Manoj Chugh, President-Enterprise Business, Tech Mahindra on the theme “Disruption, Innovation and Industry Change” where he spoke about industry change being driven by disruptive innovations and transformations.

Secretary General of FISME, Anil Bhardwaj, who chaired another session, said, “As organisations become large, customisation becomes difficult for them. Mass production is what they are grilled up for. In case of SMEs, it is a different thing, they are good in customisation and they can respond very fast but they lack economy of scale. This is the technology interestingly that on one hand it allows the large industries to act as a SME and it allows an SME to act as a large industry.”

Bhardwaj also said that for large industries, thanks to industrial internet of things, big data and 3D printing, they can achieve extreme amount of customisation.

“With regards to SMEs, in real time they can get together can spread geographically, different places and may across the borders form a chain or value chain. 80 per cent of world trade is happening through the global value chains. So they can form their own value chains which could be led by large industry or small scale industries, then they can achieve the scale with the help of these technologies."

A special session with Piyush Goyal, Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy, was another highlight of the event. In the session titled “The New Age of Industry with IoT”, some key insights were drawn on the lines of industry changes with respect to Internet of Things. (KNN/ AR)
