Did 'Uncontrollably Fond' Episode 1 live up to the hype?

Finally, the most-anticipated Korean drama ''Uncontrollably Fond'' premiered on Wednesday. But did it live up to the super hype that it had created in the run-up to the premiere? Episode One has drawn mixed reactions.

Before the drama released, there had been a slew of trailers, alluring posters and promos that had hiked the anticipations of the people. Bae Suzy fans were thrilled when it was announced that she will lend her voice for a song.

It was even speculated that ''Uncontrollably Fond'' will pose a tough challenge to the ''Doctors'' serial and perhaps be the next ''Descendants of the Sun.''

The broadcasting rights to the 10 billion won drama were sold to a Chinese distributer for $250,000 an episode, the same as “Descendants of the Sun,” raising expectations for the drama, according to Samhwa Networks, which produced the series.

But Episode One of ''Uncontrollably Fond'' has failed to impress everyone. Partly because the level of anticipation was too high? But still, a large section of the audience wondered what was wrong with the drama and why it has drawn adverse comments, on online social media platforms.

It was a flying start for ''Uncontrollably Fond'' on Wednesday, as the drama started with spectacular stunts. But it turns out to be a movie shooting and Kim Woo-bin abruptly leaves the film set, demanding a change in script. He doesn''t want to die as it is in the script. He, then, goes to visit a medic.

Before the drama premiere, lead stars Bae Suzy and Kim Woo-bin attended a press conference and opened up on their drama experience. Suzy said it felt strange to act alongside Kim Woo-bin in ''Uncontrollably Fond,'' initially. Both of them spoke about their impressions on each other''s performance and how they have become attuned to each other while in their roles.

''To be frank, I felt very awkward acting with Kim. But as the shooting went on, I felt his generosity and friendliness,'' Suzy was quoted as saying by Kpop Herald.

Kim also added, ''It was I who actually received most help, Suzy lightened up the atmosphere while shooting and she is a very thoughtful actress.''

''Uncontrollably Fond'' tells a heartbreaking love story between a couple who were friends when young, and meet again each as a top star and a documentary producer.

But will the Wednesday-Thursday 10pm KBS2 drama eventually turn out to be a success story? Wait and watch!
