(MENAFN- Arab Times) Alghanim Industries, one of the largest private companies in the region, held a graduation ceremony last week at the JW Marriott for 15 summer interns who completed an exciting four week program this June.
The company hosted graduating students and their families at the ceremony as a show of support for successful completion of the program. The 15 interns were shortlisted through a selection process based on GPA, extracurricular activities and rigorous interviews.
First and second year university students from both local and international universities participated in the program. Local universities were the American University of Kuwait (AUK), the Australian College of Kuwait (ACK), and the American University of the Middle East (AUM). Students were divided into groups of five and were taken on extensive tours of Alghanim Industries' different businesses and functions. During the first week, the students completed their orientation by visiting KIMMCO, Kirby and an X-cite showroom in The Avenues. After that, the interns were imbedded into a number of the company's businesses and departments to learn and experience work in the private sector. Participating Alghanim Industries businesses included Safat Home, X-cite, HR, Corporate Treasury, Market Research and Insight, and Alghanim Automotive Group.
Following their time with the businesses, and after officially concluding their internships, the students were evaluated on overall performance, communication and comprehension, attitude and work habits, and presentation skills. The interns were given certificates for placing first, second, and third in recognition of their achievement and performance. The participating universities, AUK, ACK and AUM were also presented with appreciation awards for outstanding support and commitment to the program.
Commenting on the graduation ceremony, Chief Human Resource Officer at Alghanim Industries, George Lambros said: "We are very happy to see another group of young students graduate from our summer internship program. I'd like to congratulate them on their hard work - they should be proud of what they accomplished during the course of the program."
He added: "This is one of the many ways that we strive to contribute to the educational development of Kuwaitis. Alghanim Industries is committed to empowering and equipping youth to own their economic success."
The event concluded with all of the participating interns receiving gifts and vouchers from X-cite, Safat Home, and Alghanim Automotive Group, as a token of appreciation for their hard work during the summer internship program.
Sultan Al-Marzouqi, a participating intern studying at the University of Northern Arizona, said: "The internship was a great learning experience that was extremely beneficial, and one of the most important lessons was how to be a team player. I'd like to thank Alghanim Industries for selecting me to be part of this great program."
