Iraqi PM orders further security measures following Karada explosion


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, July 3 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Hdidar Al-Abadi instructed Sunday security bodies to further beef up security measures in Baghdad and other cities in the nation, following the deadly explosion in Al-Karada last night.

Al-Abadi instructed Baghdad Operations Command to coordinate with the ministry of defense and the Baghdad mayorship to tighten the security measures further, including air surveillance and intelligence, according to a statement by his office.

He ordered the ministry of interior to investigate contracts, which he described as "corrupted," regarding the bomb-deterctor devices.

The explosion in Al-Karada killed some 160 people and injured around 170 others. (pickup previous) ahh.bs
