Oman- No change in quality of fuel supplied: Orpic

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat-

Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) has refuted claims that there has been change in the characteristics/quality of petrol supplied since fuel prices were deregulated in January this year.

Many people have expressed their concerns on the issue over social media that their vehicle mileage has come down significantly since they switched from Super to Regular grade petrol.

There were many who even complained of less mileage when using Super grade in comparison to the time when petrol was subsidised. In response, the company stated, ''Orpic confirms that there has been no change in the characteristics of the fuel whether Super, Regular or diesel produced at the company''s refineries at Port of Sohar and Mina al Fahal.''

It further added, ''The observed increase fuel consumption - if any - has to be attributed to mechanical reasons, including the capacity and use of vehicle air conditioners. There is no difference in the mileage for Regular and Super fuel. The fuel only influences the lifespan of a vehicle''s engine.''

The company also said that calculation of fuel mileage may vary if refuelling is done during the day or night because of partial evaporation of fuel.

Orpic assured consumers that fuel provided is of global standards. ''We would like to assure you that all laboratory tests for the month of June conform to the fuel specifications and set global standards.'' Since January, the price of Super (M95) has gone up by 50 per cent (from 120bz to 180bz), Regular (M90) by 49 per cent (114bz to 170bz) and diesel by 29 per cent (from 146bz to 188bz).

Many vehicle owners have shifted to Regular petrol because of the price difference. Oman recorded a significant 127.3 per cent year-on-year increase in the production of this petrol during the first quarter of the current year. Its output surged to 1.72mn barrels compared to 758,900 barrels last year.
