Kuwait- Bolshoi stands out as Russia's theatrical minaret

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Photo feature by Adib Al-Sayed MOSCOW, June 30 (KUNA) -- The historic Bolshoi Theater in Russia, built in 1776, had to be reconstructed due to a huge fire that gutted it in 1805.

The iconic building, which at times doubled as a political headquarters, was renovated after the government took a decision in this respect in 2005.

The USD one billion renovation resulted in expanding its space from 40,000 square meters to 80,000 sq m. Five kilograms of pure gold had been used to paint its interior walls.

The Russians have performed some of the top ballets at this theater -- namely Spartacos, Gizele and Romeo and Juliet. (end) as.rk
