Sharjah Ruler speaks about Arabic letters during TV interview

SHARJAH, 29th June 2016 (WAM) - H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, today spoke in a TV interview about the Arabic script, its origin, and how it came to the Arabian Peninsula.

The interview, aired by the Sharjah Satellite Channel and moderated by Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director of the Sharjah Radio and Television, was in continuation of a lecture that Sheikh Sultan gave during his meeting with journalists last week.

Sheikh Sultan said there were many theories about the origin of Arabic letters. He detailed these different theories and explained elements relating to the shapes, dotting and intonation of the letters.

He also quoted verses from the Holy Quran, correspondence of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and some ancient poems to denote the evolution of the Arabic letter from old times to now.
