Japan condemns Turkish airport attack


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, June 29 (KUNA) -- Japan has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that hit the Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, on Tuesday.

"Terrorism cannot be justified for any reason, and Japan firmly condemns such act of terrorism," Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Yasuhisa Kawamura said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Japan extends its sincere condolences to the bereaved families, and expresses its heartfelt sympathy to those who were injured," said Kawamura. Japan expresses its strong solidarity with the government and people of Turkey, he added.

According to media reports, at least 36 people were killed and about 150 others wounded in the bombing and shooting at Istanbul''s main international airport Tuesday night.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said the attack appeared to have been carried out by the so-called Islamic State (IS) militants.(end) mk.msa
