French FM firmly condemns deadly attacks on Istanbul airport

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, June 29 (KUNA) -- French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault on Wednesday firmly condemned the suicide bomber attacks that killed at least 38 people and wounded close to 150 Tuesday night in Istanbul airport.

The attacks at the international terminal of Ataturk airport are suspected of being the work of so-called Islamic State, according to Turkish official statements.

"I condemn with the greatest firmness the attack carried out (Tuesday) at Istanbul airport. This odious and cowardly act has caused many victims," Ayrault said in a personal statement from his office.

"In these tragic circumstances, we stand at Turkey''s side in the fight against terrorism," the Foreign Minister added.

France has opened a "crisis cell" to communicate with the Turkish authorities and also with the French community in Turkey and has urged all French citizens to follow the precautionary measures put in place by Turkish authorities as regards security. (end) jk.rk
