UAE- Wrong injection could have caused mother's death, relatives say

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An expatriate mother was declared dead shortly after delivery at a local hospital in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, Khaleej Times has learnt.

The deceased, an Iranian woman, was giving birth to her second child, according to relatives.

"The gynecologist in charge said she checked on her an hour after delivery and that she bled excessively and could not make it," the relatives said.

What made the situation worse was a wrong injection that was given, the relatives claimed. "The hospital management tried to mislead us, and claimed that she died of natural causes. But we have alerted the law enforcement bodies."

The husband of the victim, an Emirati, approached the Maamura police station and lodged a complaint against the hospital. "The hospital management and the gynecologist are responsible for my wife''s death," he said.

A police source told Khaleej Times that the RAK Medical Zone and the Public Prosecution are investigating the case. "Such cases are directly referred to the public prosecution."

An official source with the Ministry of Health said they have been alerted of the case. "A joint committee from the Ministry of Health and the RAK police will thoroughly look into the case."
