QRCS delivers houses, food packages in CAR

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has sent a special delegation to the Central African Republic (CAR) to supervise the delivery of relief projects for local and displaced communities affected by the prolonged armed conflict.
These projects include the handover of 350 clay houses in Moyenne-Sido, northern CAR, and distribution of 3,400 Ramadan food packages in co-operation with local and international partners at a total cost of $750,000 (QR2,755,200).
Under its relief intervention conducted jointly with the Central African Red Cross Society, QRCS “works hard to accelerate the progress despite insecurity and lack of infrastructure”, according to a statement.
The programme involves the building of clay houses for 350 displaced families (1,400 people), digging three artesian wells to secure clean drinking water, building toilets annexed to the housing units, launching personal hygiene awareness campaigns and distributing 800 hygiene kits for the benefit of internally displaced persons (IPDs) and the local community.
Co-ordinated with the CAR national society, these contributions are meant to alleviate the suffering of the target beneficiaries and help them stay in the country until the crisis is over and they can return to their hometowns, the statement notes.
As part of the Ramadan Iftar Programme 2016, QRCS personnel are distributing food packages to 3,400 families (13,600 people) in several districts of Bangui and Kabo, including homeless, disabled, widowed and orphaned members.
Food packages worth $190,000 will be distributed over 30 days, in partnership with the CAR Red Cross Society and International Organisation for Migration.
Each package contains 36.5kg of food items such as rice, oil, sugar, coffee and tea. All these items have been purchased from the local market and each package lasts for 30 days.
