Awasr and Oman Avenues Mall launch initiative for better health

Awasr, the sultanate''s first specialised high-speed fibre Internet provider, has in partnership with Oman Avenues Mall, the modern mixed-use destination, announced the launch of an initiative in Ramadan encouraging Omanis to exercise and enhancing the concepts of healthy lifestyles among all segments of society.

The initiative, dubbed ''Darbark'', is a 2.25km walking track inside the Oman Avenues Mall away from the summer heat. Customers can use the track to burn calories after iftar (sunset meal) as the track runs from Awasr service centre at the basement level right up to the third floor.

The walking track is marked on the ground with foot prints that will take customers to the final destination point. Mall-goers can burn double the amount of calories if they finish two laps, a total of 4.5km. Once they have completed the walk, they can share their experience through social media using hashtag #DarbakOmanAvenues to win great weekly prizes.

Ben Watson, general manager, Oman Avenues Mall, said, ''This initiative reflects Oman Avenues Mall''s continuous efforts to find new ways to engage the community of Muscat and the Darbak initiative does this perfectly. Our partnership with Awasr adds more value to this initiative and encourages more mall-goers to get engaged and walk inside an air-conditioned mall while at the same time enjoy window-shopping in Ramadan.''

Commenting on ''Darbak'', Issam al Ismaily, head of marketing, Awasr, said, ''We are glad to be part of this community initiative that seeks to enhance healthy lifestyles among our customers and all Omani people. We decided to support this initiative because it encourages people to get active and adopt healthy living methods.''

Located in the heart of Muscat, Oman Avenues Mall has quickly become a hotspot and a vibrant dining, entertainment and shopping destination for the city. During Ramadan, the mall runs special entertainment events such as Aladdin theatre shows, Areej Art Band performances and roaming hakawati storytelling.
