Oman- Sohar Islamic supports Q'uran memorising competition in Seeb

With its focus on actively supporting community initiatives, Sohar Islamic - Bank Sohar''s dedicated Islamic banking window, sponsored the 4th Annual Q''uran Memorising Competition.

The competition, which began registrations in December last year and started its semi-final phase at the end of February, recently held its finals at the wali''s office in Seeb, under the auspices of H E Sheikh Ibrahim Yahya Abdullah al Rawahi, Wali of Seeb. The final event was held on June 22.

Salim Khamis Saif al Maskari, DGM and head of Sohar Islamic said, ''Sohar Islamic has always been a steadfast supporter of developing cultural values and promoting young talent in our beloved country. As a result we place great emphasis on supporting contests like these which not only seek to recognise and reward outstanding youngsters who have learned to memorise the Holy Q''uran, but also aims to spread the Islamic values of peace and harmony across the country.''

It was the second time Sohar Islamic has sponsored the competition. Organised by Kaab bin Zayed School, this year''s competition was split into two separate contests. The first was an open competition for students of all ages, both male and female; testing their knowledge and memory of the entire Q''uran. Taking top honours in this contest was Salah al Anbouri, who won RO1,000.

Coming in a close second and third were Moosa al Kharousi and Mohammed Ahmed, who were presented with prizes worth RO500 and RO300 respectively. The second contest was of a much larger scale, with students from 56 schools in the wilayat of Seeb vying for top honours in four categories based on their grade. Students showcased their skill of memorising several Q''uran verses of their choice. The winners of each category received RO1,000 each.
