NEW YORK, June 25 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwaiti continues to maintain robust and distinctive ties with the United Nations, supporting the organization''s efforts for realizing global security and stability, said the country''s permanent envoy to the UN.
Ambassador Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi, in remarks to KUNA on the occasion of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon''s visit to Kuwait, expected to begin on Sunday, indicated that the UN chief''s visit will be among a number of missions abroad before end of his tenure.
He confirmed that Ban would hold meetings with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. He and his accompanying delegation will be honored with a dinner banquet due to be held by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
Ambassador Al-Otaibi stated that the UN chief would discuss with the Kuwaiti leaders a host of issues, namely Kuwait''s relationship with the UN, "which is a distinguished relationship where Kuwait supports the UN chief efforts for achieving security and stability in various regions of the world." The planned discussions will also deal with latest developments related to the ongoing negotiations among the Yemeni parties, hosted by Kuwait since nearly two months ago, the Syrian crisis, Iraq and terrorism.
Ban is visiting a number of nations to express gratitude for these states'' leaders support for the UN during his term. (end) mao.rk
