Qatar- Stage set for the biggest show in futsal

DOHA: Qatar’s Al Rayyan will launch the six-day Futsal Intercontinental Cup with a game against Spain’s Inter Movistar today with hosts claiming all readiness for the highly popular event.

The world’s top eight sides will do battle for the honours at the June 24-29 event.

“We are ready. The teams have arrived and they have started training sessions also,” Abdulah Alsai (pictured), QFA Director of Futsal, said yesterday.

“The exciting event will put the focus on Qatar for almost a week and we are confident of staging a memorable event of futsal games,” he added.

“We have seen teams holding their training sessions with serious intent. We have received the‎ final squads of all the participating teams,” he said.

“The local and international media has already assembled in Doha. We staged the pre-event press conferences on Thursday,” he said. “We have been promoting the event at all levels for more than a month now,” he said.

“We have got positive feedback from the fans,” he said.

The June 24-29 event brings together eight of the world’s best futsal teams who will do battle for top honours at two venues – the Aspire Ladies Sports Hall and the Ali bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena.

Qatar will be represented by Al Rayyan. Other teams include Inter Movistar, FC Barcelona Lassa, Carlos Barbosa, Magnus Futsal, Tasisat Daryaei, Dynamo Moscow and Benfica.
