Kuwait- France hopes for rapid release of journalists arrested in Turkey

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, June 23 (KUNA) -- France on Thursday said it was "very concerned" over the arrest of press freedom journalists and a human rights activist in Turkey and Paris urged they be released "as quickly as possible." Two journalists and representatives of international press freedom bodies were detained in Turkey on June 20 and are in provisional detention.

Ahmet Nesin, a journalist, and Erol Onderoglu from the Paris-based international press freedom organisation, Reporters Without Borders, were detained, as was Sebnem Korur Fincanci from the Turkish Human Rights Foundation.

France has mobilised its consular services in Istanbul and Ankara and is "attentively following the judicial process," a statement said here.

"Nobody should be imprisoned for having defended freedom of expression," France said earlier in the week in commenting the detentions.(End) jk.tg
